Kuruvadweep : A group of Islands

Dweep refers to island in Malayalam and Kuruvadweep is a group of islands. Kuruvadweep is located 17 kms east of Mananthavady and 58 kms northwest of sultan battery. This place is a combination of three uninhabited islands. Rare species of birds, orchids and herbs are the sovereigns of this supernal kingdom. It is located in the Wayanad district of Kerala state in south India.

This place is an ideal picnic spot. It is full of small streams and thick forest. It is 950 acres stretched land and it’s bound with Kabini River. Kabini River originates from Wayanad district joins Kaveri River in Karnataka and flows to Bay of Bengal. Kabini is one of the 3 rivers which flow towards the east in Kerala. Kuruvadweep is 106 kms from Kozhikode city. Nearest town is Mananthavady. 

There are three islands in the dweep which one would come across. You can see lots of vegetation, rare orchids, wild flowers and birds in Kuruvadweep. One of the islands contains two small water lakes. The silence of island is broken by the murmuring of birds. The whole of Kuruvadweep has a unique eco-system worth exploring for nature lovers. Those who venture into these islands need to refrain from actions that would hamper the eco-system.

You can take a boat and cross the river and then you have to be on foot to explore the place. It is exciting to cross the place by foot and move from one island to another. You need at least 5 hours to explore the places. The island is accessible to tourist from 9 am to 5 pm. The wooded stretch land is a main attraction for tourist in Wayanad.
 

Wayanad is famous for its Ayurveda tradition and treatment. Other tourist places like Pookot Lake, Soochippara, Thirunelli, Thusharagiri, Chembra peak etc. around makes Wayanad an ideal location for a vacation. 

Direction to Kuruvadweep is as follows. You can reach Kuruvadweep from Mananthavady on the way to Mysore, just a kilometer after Karthikulam, look for the Kuruvadweep sign post and take a right. It is around 5 km from this deviation.
